WORK FOR SKATE LIKE A GIRL PORTLAND!

 

We are currently looking to hire a Chapter Director to perform a variety of administrative tasks and manage operations for the Portland Chapter. We are also looking to hire a Program Coach to lead our afterschool programs, weekend clinics, and other programs as scheduled. To learn more about the positions, please read the job descriptions below. Portland Chapter Director

 

Basic Assignment

 

We are looking to hire a Chapter Director to come on board with Skate Like a Girl Portland starting in January 2017. The Chapter Director will act as the primary administrative staff for the Portland chapter. The Chapter Director will be in charge of outreach and communication with schools and partner organizations (Boys & Girls Club, Betties360, CampFire Columbia, etc.) to schedule afterschool programming and coordinate with coaches. The Chapter Director will also be in charge of various administrative responsibilities of the chapter, including responding to emails, developing new programming, apply for grants, fundraising, communicating with the Seattle chapter, and other duties as necessary. The Board of Directors will assist with fundraising and development. 

 

During the spring, the Chapter Director will organize our 2017 summer skate camps, including hiring coaches, getting participants to register, and coordinating and training coaches. During the summer, the Chapter Director will be in charge of all summer camp operations, in conjunction with Summer Camp Lead (if the Chapter Director does not have the skateboarding experience to lead camps themselves). Summer camp operations will include administrative tasks and prep work, as well as developing day-of activities and managing coaches and volunteers.

 

Pay starts at $15-$18/hr, depending on experience. This position will start out part-time, roughly 15-20 hours a week, with the potential for an increase in hours as the chapter grows.

 

Major Functions

 

  • Manage administrative responsibilities for the chapter, including, but not limited to, responding to emails, developing new programming, and raising money for the organization 

  • Lead pre-program meetings with all staff and volunteers to go over assignments and expectations  

  • Supervise and ensure safety of participants at all times  

  • Ensure programs run on time each day  

  • Effectively communicate with other volunteers, staff, parents, and participants  

  • Ensure safety gear and skateboards are in working, safe condition and prepped for programs 

  • Model the values and mission of Skate Like a Girl at all times  

  • Follow Skate Like a Girl standards and procedures as outlined in staff manual and at staff trainings  

  • Maintain a professional manner with volunteers, participants, parents, staff and the community  

  • Document any incidents immediately after occurrence  

 

Qualification / Skills /Requirements

 

  • Minimum age of 18 years old  

  • Previous experience working with youth in education, sports, or camp  

  • Knowledge and experience with skateboarding  

  • The visual and auditory ability to quickly respond to incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency  

  • The physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds.  

  • The physical ability to lead and interact in activities and enforce safety standards  

  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire   

  • Must have valid drivers license and automobile (to transport gear)

Portland Program Coach

Basic Assignment

 

We are looking for a Program Coach to come on board with Skate Like a Girl Portland starting in January 2017. The Program Coach will act as an instructor at our after-school programs, weekend clinics, and other programs as scheduled. This position will start out part-time, roughly 5-10 hours a week during the school year, with the potential for an increase in hours as programs are added. During the summer, there will be opportunities for up to 40 hours/week as a camp counselor.

 

Pay starts at $11-$14/hr, depending on experience and responsibilities.

 

Major Functions

 

  • Sign in all participants

  • Greet participants and/or families as they arrive

  • Lead intro and warm-up activities

  • Lead a group of up to 12 participants without assistance of other coaches

  • Lead a group of up to 21 participants with assistance of at least 2 other coaches 

  • Supervise and ensure safety of participants at all times  

  • Ensure programs run on time

  • Effectively communicate with other volunteers, staff, parents, and participants  

  • Ensure safety gear and skateboards are in working, safe condition and prepped for programs 

  • Model the values and mission of Skate Like a Girl at all times  

  • Follow Skate Like a Girl standards and procedures as outlined in staff manual and at staff trainings  

  • Maintain a professional manner with volunteers, participants, parents, staff and the community

  • Ability to instruct skateboarding to a group of up to 12 youth without assistance

  • Available weekdays 2:30-6:30 pm to staff afterschool programming

  • Available the first and second Sundays of each month from 9-1:30 pm to staff weekend clinics

  • The visual and auditory ability to quickly respond to incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency  

  • The physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds.  

  • The physical ability to lead and interact in activities and enforce safety standards
